CRFC(U17s)&Trowbridge 61-0 Taunton
Thursday 4th October 07

A combined Girls U18 team from Trowbridge and Chippenham rugby clubs travelled to Taunton for their first game of the current season.

On a wet, slightly windy day, the passing by both sets of backs was lacking in fluency and it was only when the rain finally stopped falling, the handling became much better.

The combined Trow/Chipp pack began to take control of the game and due to some good driving and support play, they were able to feed some good, controlled ball to the backs. This allowed the stand-off Nicky Hooley (Trowb) to score the opening try of the game and from then on, the game was totally dominated in the forwards and backs, by the visitors. Taunton to their credit, displayed some spirited defence but Trow/Chipp’s second try came soon after the first from the hooker, Katy Devars (Chipp).

The backs then started to throw the ball about and four more tries came before the half-time whistle. The tries came from centre Lou (Trowb), lock Anna Hemmingway (Trowb), scrum-half Emma Winkworth (Chipp), prop Alice Ryon-Lowes (Chipp), converted by Nicky Hooley (Trowb).

The second half saw more of the same with five tries being scored by Trowb/Chipp. A second try for lock Anna Hemmingway, a second half hat-trick for Nicky Hooley – one of which she converted herself. The fifth try came from Naomi Simms (Trowb).

As the half progressed, the visitors did start to lose their shape and this allowed Taunton room to attack and suddenly Trowb/Chipp found themselves under some pressure. But even with the determined tackling by Taunton , the visitors proved too strong.
